Prepare for the Darkness of Winter in Creature Comforts From Publisher Kids Table Board Gaming
The Everdell craze of featuring anthropomorphic representations of animals in board games continues as publisher Kids Table Board Gaming (KTBG) is currently running a Kickstarter campaign for Creature Comforts, a 1 - 5 player game from designer Roberta Taylor. As the summer is coming to an end the forest dwelling creatures are starting to take stock for the upcoming harsh winter. What better way to spend the long, cold months than making your burrow as cosy as possible with new furniture, a nice cup of tea and games? Visually there is no denying that Creature Comforts has a lovely charm to it, featuring some truly endearing illustrations courtesy of artist Shawna J.C. Tenney. The game combines worker placement with dice, where the latter is used as a prerequisite in order for a worker to be eligible to collect the associated reward from the chosen location. According to the current work in progress edition of the rulebook, playing Creature Comforts solo requires no rules changes and is designed as a beat your own score affair.
“Creature Comforts plays over several rounds called months. The gameboard features a variety of locations that provide differing benefits (such as gaining resources, Comfort cards, or Improvement tiles). To gain a location’s benefit, you’ll need to send a worker there, hoping to later assign the dice needed to make the visit a success. Each player rolls two private Family dice before sending their workers out (so everyone will have a little advance knowledge of their own potential). Once all workers are placed, the four shared Village dice are rolled to set them for the month, and turns begin. On your turn, you assign dice from your unique dice pool (2 Family and 4 Village) to your workers so they can do stuff. You’ll use the resources you gather to craft useful Improvements and valuable Comforts, trying especially to fashion items that work together to improve your score. Saved resources (especially Stories) are worth endgame points as well. The family that crafts the coziest collection of Comforts before the first snowfall wins the game!” - excerpt from the official rulebook.
At the time of writing the Kickstarter campaign for Creature Comforts has 11 days to go with estimated delivery projected for December of 2021.
